Beat6

Last month, Linsey and I went to Bearsden to visit Six By Nico’s social enterprise restaurant Beat 6. The restaurant provides a 4 course meal, with optional starters and a cheese course, and 100% of the profits get donated to the Beatson Cancer Charity.

We booked the earliest dinner slot, which was 4.30pm so we were the only ones in the restaurant. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable about their courses, she did have to double check which meals could be made gluten free, even though I had put that I was coeliac onto the booking – would have been that extra touch if that information was ready to be given when the order was taken.

The first course was a warm pickled walnut and pecorino tart. The gluten free option was minus the tart, the filling was very light and airy.

For the second course, I ordered the green asparagus and Linsey got the hasselback potatoes. They were both really delicious and the mixture of flavours for the asparagus was amazing.

The third available option was the squid ink spaghetti, but from what the waitress said, they don’t carry gluten free pasta so that’s a no-go for coeliacs.

The ‘main course’ I opted for the glazed chicken and Linsey ordered the poached coley. The chicken was mouthwateringly good!

Linsey really enjoyed her fish, she said she really enjoyed the caviar in the dish as well.

We got the optional cheese course (obviously), the clava brie was covered in truffle honey. It normally comes with a clootie dumpling, but that was removed to make it gluten free.

There were only two dessert options, so I got the strawberry (which came out very green, always thought strawberries were red haha), and Linsey got the chocolate. The strawberry came with yoghurt, jam, cream cheese and sorrel. I didn’t go much on the chocolate dish as it was dark. Linsey thought it was good though.

The four course meal costs £28 which is an amazing deal for the quality of food and had a great atmosphere. Would be good for a date night or a catch up with friends.
