Dinner at Alchemilla

A couple of weeks ago I went and visited my mate Ben (previously featured in the kitesurfing post) down in Nottingham. I came from work in the Yorkshire Dales and had a bit of FOMO because my boss had been to a great tasting menu dinner and was raving about it. I wanted that, so I did some research on fine dining in Nottingham and convinced Ben we should go to Alchemilla (it didn’t take much convincing). We also invited Ben’s mate Rob – he’s coming kitesurfing with us in September – and we booked around a week in advance. Luckily they had availability during my stay. We had to give about 3 days notice for dietary requirements and 24 hours for disabled access (you can kind of see the ramp in the background of this photo).

Eating out gluten free in London

Eating out can be a bit of a chore when you have allergies or intolerances.
Luckily for me, their are multiple places to choose from in London that cater for gluten free – and actually understand the dangers of cross contamination (and the fact that boiling water doesn’t kill off gluten!)

There are a few 100% completely gluten free restaurants and cafes dotted around including:

Cheese and Wine Festival – East Village (London)

On Saturday morning I met up with a friend and some randoms for our not-so-regular brunch club. Anyone and everyone is welcome and this time we had 5 people. After brunch, Rachel – who had come down from Cambridge for the weekend – said she was headed to the Cheese and Wine Festival in the East Village. Cushla and I quickly jumped on that idea and invited ourselves along because, well, CHEESE!

Royal Ascot Races – June 2016

As some may know, I have returned to the lively city that is my second home – London.

Even before I had arranged to come back on my second visa (thankyou British grandparents!) my London friends were sending me links and invitations to some great events happening in the UK this Summer.

The main event we booked was the Grand Finale Day of the Royal Ascot Races on June 18th.

Arsenal Stadium Tour

Because I’m an awesome girlfriend, for Christmas I bought my boyfriend tickets for the Arsenal Legends Tour. After much research (asking his friend – who is also a ‘gooner’ (Arsenal fan) which legend is better, the Perry Groves Legend Tour was booked.

Invictus Games 2014

INVICTUS
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
William Ernest Henley

Last year Prince Harry visited Colorado for the Warrior Games. The Games gave him the idea to bring a similar idea to London and the Invictus Games were born.
